Nicola Adams OBE

Despite showing clear signs of ring rust having not fought for 11 months, Nicola Adams retained both her WBO flyweight title and her unbeaten professional record in September after a nail-biting draw with Maria Salinas at the Royal Albert Hall. It was the first time women had boxed at the iconic venue but the Mexican challenger proved a worthy adversary and after a strong start by Adams, Salinas was on the front foot during the second half of the bout. Nevertheless, it was a successful defence of her title after a difficult year for Adams and whether she faces a rematch or a new opponent next year, she will enter 2020 still undefeated and still world champion.
