Nicola Adams OBE
It’s been over 20 years in the making, but Nicola Adams is now tantalisingly close to her first full professional world title fight. Great Britain’s most successful female boxer of all time defeated Mexico’s Isabel Millan to win the interim WBO world flyweight title. The win was a fifth from five fights for two-time Olympic champion Adams since she turned professional in 2017. The Leeds-born fighter was taken beyond four rounds for the first time in her professional career in the bout at Morningside Arena in Leicester, but Adams’ class told and she took the win on all three judges’ scorecards. Her victory sets up a mouthwatering world flyweight title clash with Arely Mucino, a fight promoter Frank Warren is hoping to arrange as part of the undercard when fellow Leeds boxer Josh Warrington takes on Carl Frampton in December.
