Laura Weightman

2017 was a big year for the Leeds Beckett University graduate who still lives and trains in the city under a coaching team led by Steve Cram. Not content with setting new personal bests over 800m and 5,000m this year, it was in the World Championships at the London Olympic Stadium that she really made her mark. Weightman described her performance in the semi-final of the 1,500m as “the race of my life” and was also delighted with her sixth-place finish in the final. After having her funding cut by British Athletics in 2016 this was the perfect response from the 26-year old whose attention now turns to next year’s Commonwealth Games.
