Hannah Cockroft MBE
It was another phenomenal year for the Leeds City athlete who won her 10th world title with victory in the T34 400m at the World Para Athletics Championships in London. The reigning Paralympic and world champion crossed the line in 17.18 seconds, taking 0.1 seconds off her own world record. It meant that the 25-year old maintained her perfect record at World Championships, adding a third London gold to her seven previous triumphs across meetings in Christchurch, Lyon and Doha. What makes Cockcroft’s performance all the more impressive (or intimidating if you’re one of her rivals) is that she won the 400m comfortably despite having spent the day in bed with a heavy cold!
